If you are ready to get out of your house and begin exploring the fascinating history of our country, then the Great American Treasures website is the perfect platform for you!

Not only does this website provide an overview of historical homes, sites, and museums affiliated with the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, but it offers travel destination planning so that you can efficiently manage your family’s experience while squeezing in a stop or two at nearby significant attractions.

Launched in the spring of 2020, Great American Treasures is a website based project coordinated by NSCDA. It contains a wide array of resources and information that can be found with the click of a mouse.

To learn how you can use this wonderful website, follow these simple instructions:

1. Using your web browser, enter greatamericantreasures.org into the address bar. 

2. Upon reaching the Great American Treasures website, scroll down the page to begin exploring.

The website has many helpful portals that will allow you to search by curated collection or by physical location of the sites that you would like to visit.

To plan your destination, find the part of the homepage with a button that asks “Find History Where You Are.” After clicking the button, enter the city name or zip code of the area you wish to visit.

3. After entering the city name or zip code, a map will appear that indicates museums near the area of you have selected. After viewing the map, scroll down to find out more about these museums or sites by clicking on the available links

4. Find a site that interests you and click it for more information about what the site offers. Many links will provide details about the homes or museums, such as the Craik-Patton House, and mention that it is a Greek revival style home with a garden, historic furnishings, and that it is good for groups.
